any recommendations? any bad experiences?

i'm looking for the cheapest one possible. i don't need any special features. just internet access.

You might think this would be the right place to ask this question, but I have never owned or even used a netbook in my life.    

i can provide tons of netbook opinions so long as you dont mind that none of them are based on any facts or experience.

Try to get one with a slanted grill.  This way, the grease will just slide off and you'll be left with nothing but flavour.

I've got an Acer Aspire. Very convenient. Kind of adorable. Pretty cheap.

I got it because my niece has had hers for so long with no problems, and she's a fucking kid, so I'm convinced they're indestructible.

But I got mine refurbished on Woot for $198.

I have the dell mini 10v and its not too bad. You can also make it into a hackintosh. Today they are on sale for under $200

I wouldn't go for an Averatec simply because my first laptop was an Averatec and it was a piece of shit. Krysta's too. :/

I ended up getting an Acer for $260. I'm excited how long the battery lasts because I'll be using this (and my external hard drive) as my source for music since I can't afford a new iPod too.
