That toll only express lane extending from downtown Miami to the Golden Glades Interchange is set to get an extension into Ft. Lauderdale. The article states that this is great news except that its not. These "express lanes" are nothing but a money scheme. The claim is that they ease traffic, but they just cause it. Aside from the fact that you can have a 20 mile commute and still have no available entrance or convenient exit to the lane, it's claiming to make better use of the carpool lanes that would be astronomically more useful if they didnt exist at all.

You see, the carpool lanes might actually be useful if it weren't for the fact that they are enforced. Every time a state trooper sees someone in the carpool lane, what do they do? They pull them over right next to the carpool lane. Now if you know and follow the "Move Over or Slow Down" law then legally you are required to do what in the carpool lane when you see the FHP cars? Slow down or merge right. During rush hour, from Miami to the Golden Glades, you will have to react to this exact situation at least 2 times a commute. It creates a bumper to bumper bottleneck for miles. Now you know why the carpool lane causes traffic. The simple solution, get rid of it. Don't steal a lane from everybody make it expensive to use for some and systematically irrelevant for others and explain how its going to ease the congestion. The fact is they are charging money to the lucky few that can make use of the limited entrances and exits to avoid the congestion that the toll is designed to create. I know that Miami is run by corrupt retarded politicians, but for some reason I thought the Broward guys would be a little more on the level than this. I guess its time to move north again.
