There seem to be lots of things missing or that just plain don't work.
That's not a question. Its a statement. It's an honest mistake to be sure, but maybe its a sign that you should start spending more time thinking about how you might improve yourself and a little less time nitpicking every little detail of any given website.

Inception

Rating: 4.5

Directorr:
Christopher Nolan

Cast:
Leonardo Dicaprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe

Stars:

Leonardo Dicaprio plays an 'extractor' someone who enters your mind through your dreams and steals your secrets. He is supposed to be the best but seems to be having limited success as the movie opens up. The first 10 minutes of the movie throw a lot of information at you, but if you hang tight you'll catch up.

Ken Watanabe offers to help Dicaprio with some personal troubles if he can complete a challenge; instead of stealing information from a mind, he wants Dicaprio and his team of 'dream con artists' to plant an idea INTO a mind. Dicaprio will have to overcome all sorts of obstacles; if he dies in the dream, everyone will wake up and the plan will be ruined. The team will constantly have to battle with the target dreamers subconscious, which manifests itself as a paranoid mob. Worst of all is a memory of Dicaprio's wife who keeps showing up to sabotage all his work in the dream world.

It is a cleverly crafted story that mashes ideas from 'Dreamscape', 'The Matrix', 'The Thirteenth Floor' and even 'Fantastic Voyage' and multiplies the result by infinity. It required extraordinary scripting to handle the continuity of traveling between multiple dream worlds, similar to the work Nolan did in 'Momento'.

There were parts about this movie that I LOVED and parts that I thought were sub-par of Christopher Nolan's previous efforts. The story is VERY engaging, but the action is not so much (a fantastic scene with Joseph Gordon Levitt battling the subconscious in a hallway is an exception)There are a few scenes that actually look cheap, as though they wish they had time or money to do another take. I actually grew tired of the action, which is literally explained in the movie as a way to stall the plot.

A savvy moviegoer will figure out where this is going, but I had a much better ending in mind. I only wish they had stolen that idea from my mind as I watched. After a few of you have seen it I'll reveal my ending. In fact my ending was so perfectly set up I wouldn't be surprised if they filmed it as an alternate that didn't make the final cut.

Don't let my over-analyzing discourage you. This is a new science-fiction classic that is a theater must see. I would love to watch it again on the IMAX.

4.5 stars (-.5 for the overuse of action as a plot device)

Easily one of the ten worst movies I have ever seen. Unfortunately, we had invested too much time in the movie to not see the river, otherwise we would have walked out. So much of the story worth telling was never told. Why does being a good architect qualify you to design dreams with little to no training. Who were we supposed to root for? Pretty much everyone in the movie is bad except for cillian murphy and his story isn't even resolved. Why was watanabe an old man already when they made it to the same level at pretty much the same time. there seemed to be no effort made to keep the details consistent with themselves. the development of the characters was minimal. dicaprio was wasted on a role that could have been handled by any talentless hack like hartnett, reeves or affleck. they only even remotely interesting aspect of the story was the reason the chick killed herself and that took up maybe 10 minutes of this 2 and a half hour trainwreck of a movie.

The absolute worst thing: When i was sure the movie's story was never going to improve and that these characters were never going to develop and this convoluted crap was never going to make sense I begin to hold on for dear life to the prospect that the ending would be a visually stunning climax of epic proportions. Instead, there was a little bit of gun play in a snow house.

My worst fear at this point is the idea that we might still be watching that movie.

From your post, I can see you missed a few things. You need to go watch it again. Zumwalt..... tell him.

ya know. rather than try to get into the philosophical metaphysics and all that, i'm going to prove this movie sucked with the least amount of steps possible.

given:
tom berenger had a role in this movie giving him more than 5 minutes of screen time.
the movie sucked.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this film. I didn't give a shit about the characters, to be honest. Was entirely consumed by the thought Nolan put into the plot - so much detail, this movie was jam-packed with story.

The scenes are gorgeous and I appreciated *most* of the special effects and action applied. Towards the end the action did seem a bit rushed but no biggie.

I really appreciated the end to this movie as well, the wobble of the token and then continuous spin. Nolan left us in wonderment over whether it quit spinning or not after the camera cut away... does it really even matter? I appreciate pretty much all of Nolan's films and this is just another one to add to that list.

I really can't believe how many people like the film. Perhaps it's the scientist in me, but I hated the fact that they never got into the specifics on how the dream machine worked. If there are manifestations of people from the subconscious that can't be controlled (i.e., the mob), for instance, then why does the subconscious not do this with objects and scenery. Such as with the architect’s ability to set up so perfectly the scenery without her subconscious playing a larger part. I imagine this is b.c. she was written in to be a therapist to Leo and as such I guess it was felt not necessary to fill in these gaps.

Another thing that I found really annoying was the fact that they never get into how explicit and implicit thinking work in the dream world. Not to mention how hooking up the retarded machine and sharing the dreams works. I like my scifi grounded in some sort of reality. I really felt as I was watching it that the writer used wiki to learn about philosophy, psychoanalytical perspective, and mementics while downing some mushrooms  and wrote the screenplay for inception. It was like a high school student trying to write at a graduate level. For example, having that rich Asian character who just has this ability to magically fix murder chargers with one phone call, common on. It’s lazy writing to have these convenient characters that do not really make any sense there to supply the story line with content or to tie up loose ends in the story.

The only interesting part of the movies that was never really was approached from more than a superficial perspective was inception itself or the notion of memes infecting the mind. I could have come up with much better story lines for how to betray these concepts that actually made sense. It's not specific to the director or the format, in fact I loved The Prestige, it's in my top 20 movies but this movie was terribly incoherent and not well planned out. By the end of it I was ready for Leo to realize he's actually been in purgatory within a purgatory within in a purgatory.

If only Nolan had gotten a psychology degree before he spent ten years writing this movie. What a poser.

You guys put way too much thought into this movie. The fact of that matter is that not many people are as smart as you. You can't make a movie that goes into the specifics of the machines and whatnot because most people would just get confused. I knew people who were completely confused by the basics of this film.
